Disguise paneled walls

When I first moved into my house, I wasn't very fond of faux wood or even real wood paneled walls. That has since changed somewhat, since my design style has changed. However, I was intent on getting rid of them or covering them up some how when I first moved in.

 paneled walls solutions

If you are not a fan of paneled walls you can remedy it by a little trick I came up with using paint and chair rail. You simply paint each panel an alternate color, stripes in other words. Then, you finish up by adding chair rail and this will make the bottom panels look like wainscoting.

Also, a word of caution, if your walls are old, and mine are, they will probably be uneven or bumpy. Make sure you use caulk to seal the painters tape when making the stripes. It's a life saving tip I learned from watching HGTV!

Normally we would seal the painters tape with paint (the base color) but this only works on smooth walls.

By the way, the house is under progress, so ignore the mess!

I just realized that I have commented to you from email instead of from the comments section and it says you are a noreply blogger. Oh no! So, all this time when I've commented from my email you didn't get my messages!

    1. Thank you! I do love paneled walls now, but I'm glad I didn't when I moved in. Necessity is the mother of invention. And I do love black and white stripes!

  5. You are a flipping genius!!! I wish I'd thought of this at our last house- we had a bedroom with four walls of paneling that I hated (it looked like it was straight out of the 70's). But I would have LOVED it if we'd striped it like this! I love that you went so bold too- black and white stripes are my favorite!

  8. oh this is great! I've got real wood paneled walls all through my house and I never once though of stripes! I've been painting them all white, but this might be fun in a bedroom or something to change things up. Thanks for sharing!
