Old School: Friends- Phoebe and Joey Hate Pottery Barn

Which Friend Are You?

Do you guys remember the apothecary table episode on Friends? The one where Phoebs (Phoebe) hates Pottery Barn? It's awesome, especially if you are into interior design. If you have the Friends dvd collection it's season 6 episode 11.

Or, you can buy the episode on Amazon for 1.99.  No, this is not a sponsored post, but I really love this episode.

Anyways, Rachel loves Pottery Barn and buys an apothecary table. Everyone freaks out because Phoebe hates Pottery Barn, or anything that is mass produced for that matter. So, just so Rachel can keep her beloved apothecary table she tells Phoebe it's one of a kind and found at a flea market.

Check out these clips:

You have to check out the above clip. Ross gets completely offended that Phoebe hates Pottery Barn.

So, which Friend are you?

I'm definitely with Ross and Rachel. I do have such a weakness for Pottery Barn, but I do tend to hate having something that everyone else does as well, which is why I can sympathize with Phoebs. Most people I know don't shop at the "big box stores" that I would or do anyways, so lucky me, right? I don't feel the need to be different and I can continue drooling every time I get a Pottery Barn catalog. And I do drool.

If you are a Phoebe, you can love Pottery Barn, too. Not everything they offer is mass produced:

Antique Dough Bowl

Woven Wine Bottle are handwoven and limited in quantity

These vintage found skis from Germany date as far back as 1910, and were mainly used in the Austrian Alps, where skiing has always been a magical experience. Each pair retains its own timeworn markings and details such as pointed wood tips with metal and leather bindings.

The Olive Bucket. Once used to gather olives in the countries along the Mediterranean Sea.

If you are a Rachel living with a Phoebe, here is something that meets in the middle:

Hendrix Desk. At a country flea market, we spotted a carpenter’s work bench with a vise attached to one leg. We designed this desk to replicate its bold design and sturdy craftsmanship.

Ok, well there ya go, it was inspired from a one of a kind desk from a flea market. Close enough. I think Rachel would think so.

Btw, I'm drooling over the antique dough bowls they offer, they are so gorge!

Happy Labor Day, guys!

    1. Ross gets so offended when his design taste is dogged. Sounds like most interior decorators.

  5. I miss that show so much! They should have never ended it. I gotta say I am a mix of all of them. I love unique finds that have a history but at the same time you can never go wrong with pottery barn. Especially the chandelier lighting they have right now

  6. Haha I love that episode! (And that show!) I am totally with Ross and Rachel; I love Pottery Barn. I do get wanting things that are unique and aren't in every other living room that you go into. But sometimes a store just makes something so good, you've just got to have it no matter how many other people have it too. I really like the options you gave, and the compromise desk is great!

    1. Oh, wow! So glad you discovered Pottery Barn and so funny that you did it through Friends. I guess that was a great marketing scheme for Pottery Barn to make an episode their advertisement. I'm glad you enjoyed the post!

  8. The antique dough bowl was my pick, too! After that, I couldn't focus on anything else. I've never been to a Pottery Barn. I'm scared to go, though. Scared for my bank account! :D
